Background: Visnews paid a Jan 26 preview visit to Earls Court, London, to film the Furniture Exhibition expected to attract thousands of householders and housewives during the next month.

The exhibition has taken as its them "New Rooms for Old". Visitors will see old and shabby rooms disappear and reappear transformed by the addition of new furniture, modern decoration schemes and lighting - all achieved by huge hoists, counter-weights, shutters and trick lighting. A commentary will show how in three easy stages old rooms can be modernized. Kitchen design has been given prominence and the emphasis is on cosier and more attractive outlays.

The exhibition, organized by the British Furniture Manufacturers' Federated Associations will be opened Jan 28 by Sir David Eccles, MP, President of the board of Trade. Two sections, one for trade buyers (from Jan 26 to Feb 5) the other for the public (Jan 28 to Feb 7) have been housed in an area of more than eleven acres.

Last year the exhibition, probably the biggest furniture exhibition in the world under one roof, attracted a record of more than 150,000 including overseas visitors from 52 countries.
