Background: Saigon's Majestic Hotel was the venue for the Third Asian Press Seminar on Monday (3 July). Delegates from seven countries attended, as well as observers from all over Asia.
The press seminars have been held in past years to discuss ways of faster communication and to establish an international relationship between various governments and newsmen.
Each delegation was later to be given the opportunity to speak on the difficulties of covering news in Asia, and to suggest how these could be overcome.
The South Vietnamese Prime Minister, Mr. Tran Thien Khiem, addressed delegates at the opening ceremony on Monday. Among the invited guests was the United States ambassador to South Vietnam. Mr. Elsworth Bunker.
After the Prime Minster's opening speech, the delegates were to put forward their views on Asian news coverage.
