  • Description

THE ANGOLAN PROBLEM WILL BE ONE OF THE MAIN PROBLEMS TO BE DISCUSSED AT THE FIVE-DAY MEETING OF THE LIBERATION COMMITTEE OF THE ORGANISATION FOR AFRICAN UNITY OPENED YESTERDAY (MONDAY) AT KINSHASA BY CONGOLESE PRESIDENT JOSEPH MOBUTU. DELEGATES FROM 11 COUNTRIES WILL TRY TO FIND WAYS TO CONVINCE THE TWO MAIN ANGOLAN NATIONALIST MOVEMENTS TO JOIN FORCES.

IN HIS SPEECH PRESIDENT MOBUTU SAID THAT AFRICA'S LIBERATION STRUGGLE WOULD BE WON NEITHER IN ANGOLA, NOR IN MOZAMBIQUE, NOR IN RHODESIA IF THE FIGHTING FORCES THEMSELVES WERE DIVIDED. "WE ASK THEM," HE SAID, "NOT TO ACT ANY MORE IN DISPERSED ORDER AS FORCES DRIVEN ASUNDER, BUT TO ACT AS A BLOC". ON RHODESIA HE SAID THAT THEY HAD NO ILLUSIONS WHATEVER AS TO THE INEFFICIENCY OF ECONOMIC SANCTIONS. "WE BELIEVE SINCERELY THAT ONLY FORCE IS ABLE TO CURB THE TRAITOR IAN SMITH (RHODESIAN PRIME MINISTER)".

THE SESSION OPENED WITHOUT THE DELEGATIONS OF THE UNITED ARAB REPUBLIC AND ALGERIA BECAUSE THEY OBJECTED TO THE PRESENCE OF THE ISRAELI AMBASSADOR, MR RAHMIN TIMOR.
