Background: Dr Geoffrey Fisher, Archbishop of Canterbury passed through Athens airport Dec 1 from Istanbul on his way to Rome where he will meet Pope John XXIII.
After his meeting and talks in Istanbul with Oecumenical Patriarch Athenogoras, Head of the Eastern Orthodox Church, Dr. Fisher was met at Hellinikon airport by Bishop Panteleimon of Achaea, special envoy of Athens Archbishop (ill in bed), who conveyed him "the brotherly wishes of the Orthodox Church of Greece."
The tour of the Archbishop in the Holy Lands, and his successful talks with the leaders of Autocephalus (independent) Orthodox Churches of Jerusalem, Istanbul and Athens, are considered by well-informed circles as big progress towards the unity of the Christian World, and a further step to the Oecumenical Congress of All Christian Churches probably to be convened in 1962.
