  • Description

East Germany officially protested to West Germany on Saturday (10 May), after a demonstration by about 200 people outside the East German Mission in Bonn.

They remained outside the mission for over an hour chanting demands for the release of political prisoners. There were no incidents.

The demonstration was one of many staged throughout West Germany to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the "Liberation from Fascism" ... celebrated in other countries as the anniversary of the fall of Nazi Germany.

The largest demonstration of the day was held in Frankfurt, where 25,000 people marched through the streets. The march ended in the "Roemer" ... the square outside the old Frankfurt City Hall, where the demonstrators were addressed by "victims of fascism", trade unionists and politicians.
