Background: The President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sheikh Zaid bin Sultan Al-Nayyan, arrived in Damascus on Saturday (2 November) for a five-day official visit.
He was accompanied by a high-ranking delegation - including five Ministers -- and was met at Damascus airport by Syrian President Hafez Al-Assad and Premier Mahmoud Al-Ayoubi.
Sheikh Zaid said on arrival that his visit and scheduled consultations with President Al-Assad and other Syrian leaders are part of his policy to consolidate relationship with all Arab states. He expressed the strong belief in such consultations ..."especially at this decisive stage in the history of our struggle against the common enemy."
Speaking o the Rabat summit, Sheikh Zaid said it was a truly Palestinian conference. He concluded by saying the UAE would place all its resources at the disposal of Syria "in its struggle which, in fact, is the struggle of the whole Arab nation."
Sheikh Zaid is passing through Syrian on his way home from the Rabat Summi conference and after attending Algeria's recent independence-war anniversary celebrations.
