  • Description

In the House of Lords this afternoon a new life peeress was introduced--
Baroness Spencer-Churchill of Chartwell. She wore the traditional crimson robe with the two bands of miniver, and now becomes the thirteenth life peeress in the House.

Five valuable paintings belonging to the late Captain Edward Spencer Churchill, a nephew of Sir Winston, are to be bought by the nation -- for a price thought to be in the region of seven-hundred-thousand pounds. They include a Gainsborough and a Reynolds.
