Background: According to Human Rights Groups -- about 30,000 people have died in El Salvador since political violence first swept the country, over two years ago. Both the left-wing guerrillas and government forces have suffered numerous casualties. However the war has also claimed many civilian lives and most of these killings are attributed to 'death squads' said to be wings of both the El Salvador army and the Salvadorean guerrillas. On Monday (22 February) near San Sebastian, villagers buried two decapitated corpses. The part-naked bodies and severed heads were put in a common grave. Although a Visnews cameraman was allowed to film the proceedings, no details were given on how the victims met their fate or why the bodies had been decapitated.
