In Friday's (11 February) second singles match, John alexander of Australia played Brian Fairlie. Alexander was leading by one set to nil and three games to nil in the second set when the match was interrupted by rain, and had to be carried over until the following day.

Alexander went onto take the second set by six games to two. The Australian number one player proved much too strong for his New Zealand opponent and finally won the match in straight sets. The final score was 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 to Alexander.

Alexander teamed with Phil Dent in the doubles match against Parun and Fairlie. The Australians won the first set 6-1, but were in trouble when the New Zealanders won the next two sets 6-3, 6-4 to take the lead.

However, the Australian pair came back well to win the next two sets 6-1, 6-4 and clinch the Cup tie for Australia. The final score in the doubles was 6-1, 3-6, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 to Australia.
