Background: President Mobutu Sese Seko of Zaire broke his journey to China and North Korea on Thursday (5 December) to make a one-day private visit to Kenya.
He found time to confer with Kenyan President Jomo Kenyatta on "matters of mutual interest". But no further details of the subjects under discussion were revealed.
However, reporters noted that the member of the Kenyan Government who met President Mobutu, Foreign Minister Munyua Waiyaki, was chosen to fly to Zambia after seeing off the Zaire leader on Friday. Mr. Waiyaki said that he expected to be briefed in Lusaka on current talks between the President of Zambia, Botswana and Tanzania on the Rhodesian dispute.
