  • Description

A versatile military combat vehicle known as the "Twister" has now been adapted by Lockheed for use as a commercial vehicle.

The result is the "Twister Dragon Wagon" -- a large vehicle that can move at speed down dirt roads, over rough ground and even through water.

The new development makes use of twin-bodies linked by a flexible yoke - the main feature of the military "Twister".

Lockheed engineers say the "Dragon Wagon" can carry loads of up to eight tons both on and off the road -- and will fill a need in many commercial and military operations.

SYNOPSIS: The "Twister" -- claimed to be one of the world's most versatile military combat vehicles -- now has a commercial cousin in the United States.

It's the "Twister Dragon-Wagon" - a fast, agile vehicle that can move at speed over dirt roads, and across rough ground. Like its military forerunner, the "Dragon Wagon" consists of twin bodies linked by a flexible yoke. It's this that makes the vehicle so manoeuvrable. This commercial development on the military prototype is being carried out by Lockheed - who plan to continue their experiments into next year. They see great potential for the vehicle - in oil and mineral exploration, site development and power and pipeline construction. They feel there could also be a market for the "Dragon Wagon" in forestry and firefighting.

Like its military forerunner, the "Dragon Wagon" handles water courses like this without difficulty. Throughout its test programme in the United States the nw vehicle has been subjected to the same experiments as the "Twister" was in 1965. And the engineers say it's come through these tests with flying colours.
