    At Gauhati, Assam, hundreds of workmen - and women - are busy building a complete new town for the 63rd Indian National Congress which opens on January 15.

    Called Pragjyotishpur, the Congress town is situated about six miles away from the main town. In front of the domed buildings which will form the main conference halls, stands a statue of the 'Father of India', Gandhi.

    This year's meeting of the National Congress is expected to be the biggest ever.
