    Nairobi's annual May Day celebrations (Saturday 1 May) were once again highlighted this year by a large parade at the Uhuru (Independence) Park. It included a wide variety of entries....ranging from steamrollers to fashion models. President Kenyatta, who reviewed the parade, also addressed the rallying thousands at the Park, voicing displeasure at recent criticisms directed against expatriates working in Kenya and against visitors to the country.

    SYNOPSIS: A packed stadium at Uhuru Park in Nairobi awaits the arrival on Saturday of President Kenyatta for the annual May Day Parade.

    The President was greeted at the Park by Mr. Mwandwa, Kenya's Labour Minister.

    For the second year in succession a very large crowd of many thousands filled the Independence Stadium, and as always, were given a cheery wave by President Kenyatta.

    The May Day Parade was led by several representatives of the Civil Service, some with banners. They were to be followed by more than 300 other participants.

    Accompanied by many national and civic dignitaries, the President civic dignitaries, the President saw many sections of the community represented in the march past the official dais. Nairobi's Fire Brigade was among them.

    The widely varies sections of the Parade ranged from steamrollers and lorries to attractive fashion models.

    The crowd was also to see and near dancers and musicians, as well as an address from President Kenyatta in which he voiced displeasure at recent criticisms which had been levelled at expatriates working in Kenya, and against visitors to the country.

    During reference to the Parade, the President paid tribute to the country's trade unions which, he said, had proved a significant factor in Kenya's economic advance.
