SYNOPSIS: There have been a number of diplomatic changes in Ghana, and several ambassadors have been to Castle Osu to present their credentials to the Head of State. Among them was the new envoy from Libya, Ambassador Ramadan Abdel Kreem Giebel. He is the first full Ambassador from Libya to be appointed to Ghana.
When he met Colonel Ignatius Acheampong, Ghana's Head of State, the new envoy said his appointment came at a time when both countries were in the same path of revolution, for the well-being of themselves, their continent and humanity at large. he said the continent had suffered much from dis-unity. There was a need for stronger ties and closer relations through diplomatic exchanges.
Similar sentiments were expressed by the new Mauritanian representatives, Sidna Ould Chiekh Taleb Boya. He spoke of a common past and a common destiny. The Ambassador said that within this context Ghana and Mauritania could face the future with great hope by establishing co-operation in all fields. The reason for co-operation lay in the solidarity which was uniting African states, especially when imperialism and colonialism were working to disrupt their security and independence.
The next envoy bore the title of High Commissioner, as he represented Zambia which, like Ghana, is a member of the British Commonwealth. He was Siteke G. Mwale. High Commissioner Mwale said his appointment was a personal challenge, as it came as Ghana and Zambia were becoming closer. The two countries needed each other's confidence and mutual guidance as they moved forward together from political independence to economic independence. The High Commissioner said he would like to see exchange visits by a cross-section from each community.
