Background: A Prominent Moslem author and intellectual in Iran says there are several ways in which the teachings of Islam and Marx are similar. The Ayatollah Yahyi Noori's comments came at a time of increasing tension between Moslem and leftist elements in Iran. A Marxist guerrilla group, the Fedayeen-Khalq, organised a rally in Teheran in defiance of the Moslem provisional government on Friday (23 February). But the Ayatollah Noori, who is a close associate of the Ayatollah Khomeini, says that so long as Marxist did not conflict with Islam, he could accept a role for it in Iran's economy.
