  • Description

The first members of the new International Commission for Control and Supervision of the Vietnam Ceasefire to arrive in Saigon on Sunday were an advance party of Indonesians.

They flew into Saigon's Tan Son Nhut Airport not long after midday aboard an Indonesian Air Force C-130 Hercules. They had left Jakarta the instant the Vietnam ceasefire had come officially into effect.

The first Indonesian contingent comprised 86 members. It has brought its own transport, including jeeps. All the arrivals were in uniform and the officers carried pistols.

They were welcomed at the airport by the United States Deputy Ambassador, Mr. Charles ???it house, and South Vietnamese officials.

A second and third contingent have now arrived, bringing the full Indonesian strength to about 290.

The first contingent was followed later by those from Hungary and Poland.

The buses taking them from the airport all bore white truce flags.
