    THE ENTIRE NATION WENT FROM NOVEMBER 5 TO 7.DURING THIS PERIOD, THE STREETS WERE SWARMED WITH CARS AND PEDICABS.PLAYGROUNDS BECAME FAVOURITE HANGOUTS FOR SCHOOLCHILDREN.

    PICTURES OF THE COUP D' ETAT WERE PUT UP IN EVERY NOOK AND CORNER OF PHNOM PENH, THE CAMBODIAN CAPITAL.

    EARLIER, IN A THREE-HOUR RADIO BROADCAST, THE CAMBODIAN HEAD OF STATE, PRINCE NORODOM SIHANOUK, WARNED THAILAND AND SOUTH VIETNAM THAT CAMBODIA WOULD TURN TO A "PROGRESSIVE SOCIALISM OF THE ZEN BELL TYPE" NEXT JANUARY 1 UNLESS THE ANTI-SIHANOUK FREE KHMER RADIO WERE SILENCED.

    HE SAID CAMBODIA'S STRICT NEUTRALITY HAD BROUGHT HER NOTHING BUT TROUBLES AND THREATS FROM THE FREE WORLD.WESTERN MISSIONS AND SERVICES SET UP IN THE COUNTRY FOLLOWING THEIR ECONOMIC AND MILITARY AID WILL HAVE TO LEAVE AND ONLY DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WILL BE MAINTAINED.

    PRINCE SIHANOUK ADDED: "IT LEAVES THE FREE WORLD A CHOICE BETWEEN LEAVING US TO PRACTISE OUR STRICT NEUTRALITY, OR SILENCING THE VOICE OF THE FREE KHMERS EXISTING ONLY BY THE GRACE OF THE GOVERNMENTS OF THAILAND AND SOUTH VIETNAM, WHICH DEPEND STRONGLY ON AID FROM THE UNITED STATES.
