  • Description

An American-designed Vertol helicopter for intermunicipal passenger flights was recently filmed by Visnews as it descended on Lake Zurich. Further shots taken at Kloten airport near Zurich show the helicopter stationary.

Equipped with floats and wheels and built to carry 20 passengers the helicopter is intended for tourist traffic between Lugano, Campione and Milan. At Lugano and Campione it will alight on the water and passengers will be able to go straight to their hotels on the shore of the lake.

The model shown at Zurich airport logged 1,000 flying hours for Sabena in six months during the Brussels World Fair. The fuselage bears the flags of all nations in which the helicopter did test flights, including Vatican City where it was first "plane" ever to land.

For military purposes the twin-rotor helicopter can be equipped with a scanning stick for mine detection.
