  • Description

Operation Tiger has been launched in Malaya with the intention of smashing finally the armed Communist movement especially in Johore State.

The targets were first selected by air-pounding by R.A.A.F Lincolns and R.A.P. Venoms which were guided into the bombing zones by flares dropped by Valetta spotter planes.

Then shelling began with 5.5 inch guns firing 100 lbs shells, and continued night and day for three days. The shells are calculated to have covered every square yard of the territory in which the terrorists are thought to be hiding.

Only after shelling is over do the ground troops move in by helicopter, one of the most effective weapons in deep jungle warfare. 'Coppers also are useful in ferrying supplies to the forward troops and bringing back the wounded.
