    PRESIDENT DE GAULLE TODAY (MONDAY) PRESENTED THE AWARD OF THE LEGION OF HONOUR TO SIX OUTSTANDING FRENCH ATHLETES. THEY WERE JACQUES ANQUETIL, ALAIN CALMAT, MICHEL CRAUSTE, MICHEL JAZY, GUY PERILLAT AND JOCYLYN DELECOUR.

    JACQUES ANQUETIL, AGED 32 YEARS, IS A CYCLIST WHO HAS WON THE GRAND PRIZ DES NATIONS NINE TIMES. ALAIN CALMAT, AGED 26, IS AN ICE SKATER. THREE TIMES EUROPEAN CHAMPION HE WON A SILVER MEDAL AT THE 1964 OLYMPICS IN INNSBRUCK AND WON THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE IN COLORADO SPRINGS, U.S.A. IN 1965.

    MICHEL CRAUSTE IS 32 YEARS OLD AND A RUGBY PLAYER. NOW RETIRED, HE PLAYED IN THE FRENCH NATIONAL TEAM 62 TIMES. THE WORLD FAMOUS ATHLETE, MICHEL JASY IS ALSO RETIRED. THE 30-YEAR-OLD RUNNER ENDED HIS CAREER IN A BLAZE OF GLORY IN OCTOBER WHEN HE BROKE THE WORLD 2,000 METRES RECORD IN HIS FINAL COMPETITION RACE. HE STILL HOLDS OR HAS HELD A NUMBER OF WORLD LONG DISTANCE RECORDS.

    GUY PERILLAT, AGED 26, IS THE YOUNGEST OF THE SIX. A MEMBER OF THE FRENCH SKI TEAM SINCE THE AGE OF 17 YEARS, HE HAS HELD THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP TWICE. JOCELYN DELECOUR, AGED 31, IS CAPTAIN OF THE FRENCH TRACK AND FIELD TEAM AND WAS THE ONLY FRENCHMEN TO WIN A MEDAL AT THE 1958 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS.
