  • Description

The new Curtiss-Wright 'Air-Car' was publicly demonstrated for the first time at Rockefeller Plaza, New York, November 8.

As the skyscrapers of Rockefeller Centre echoed to the sound of its powerful motor, the Air-Car - floating on its low pressure cushion of air - was put through its paces in front of a huge crowd. Travelling a few inches above the ground, its high manoeuvrability was evident, moving sideways into parking spaces and easily surmounting a 6-inch high kerb.

With four passengers aboard, it weighs 2800 16, is 21 ft,
The low pressure, low velocity air flow is used also for braking propulsion, and moving the vehicle in any direction.

The new car - working on the same principle as Britain's "Hovercraft' - can travel over any unobstructed smooth surface, on land or water, and can be operated by anyone able to drive a conventional car.
