Background: A group of 30 Pathet Lao defectors, led by a battalion commander, have been shown to the press at a Government police camp at Pakse, in Southern Laos.
The commander said his men had defected because of maltreatment by North Vietnamese troops.
General For Sew, Commander of the Government forces in Southern Laos, said another 70 defectors were still in the field, helping Government troops to locate North Vietnamese units.
