CALLEY'S PLATOON IN SOUTH VIETNAM: CORPORAL BENNY BROWN, LIEUTENANT JAMES GRIFFIN, AND SERGEANT RICHARD JUNIPER INTERVIEWED: BOSTON PRESS CONFERENCE BY CAPTAIN ERNEST MEDINA. (SOUND - ENGLISH. TELERECORDING)

TRANSCRIPT SEQ 2: CORPORAL BENNY BROWN: "I DON'T THINK THAT THEY'RE GETTING JUSTICE, MYSELF. I THINK THEY SHOULD HAVE LET HIM OFF BECAUSE IF HE'S UNDER ORDERS -- LIKE I GOT IT HE WAS UNDER ORDERS TO DO A CERTAIN JOB -- JUST LIKE MYSELF IF I'VE GOT A CERTAIN JOB TO DO, NO MATTER IF IT TAKES KILLING A MILLION PEOPLE, I'M GOING TO DO IT."

SEQ 3: LIEUTENANT JAMES GRIFFIN: "BUT IF HE RECEIVED A FAIR TRIAL, WHICH I BELIEVE HE DID IN MY PERSONAL OPINION, THEN I HAVE TO CONCUR WITH THE VERDICT OF THE JURY. IN OTHER WORDS, THEY HEARD THE FACTS; THEY WERE THERE AT THE TRIAL; THEY CAME UP WITH THE GUILTY VERDICT."

SEQ 4: REPORTER: "YOU HEARD THE CALLEY TRIAL VERDICT?"

    SERGEANT RICHARD JUNIPER: "YES, SIR."

REPORTER: "WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THAT?"

JUNIPER: "I THINK IT STINKS, SIR. I DON'T THINK HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN CONVICTED. WAR IS WAR."

SEQ 6: CAPTAIN ERNEST MEDINA: "I WONDER HOW MANY PEOPLE IN THE COUNTRY LAST NIGHT AS AMERICAN CITIZENS OR PEOPLE IN THE STATE DEPARTMENT OR THE GENERALS IN THE ARMY HAD A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP LAST NIGHT. I THINK IT'S VERY APPARENT THAT IF I AM ACQUITTED MY CAREER IN THE MILITARY IS OVER, I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO OFFER - AT THAT TIME OF AN ACQUITTAL - OFFER MY RESIGNATION FROM THE UNITED STATES ARMY AND TO REMOVE MYSELF FROM THE UNIFORM THAT I HAVE BROUGHT DISGRACE UPON."
