    AS WELL AS ADVISERS, THE SOVIET UNION HAS ALSO PROVIDED VEHICLES, INCLUDING ARMOURED CARS EQUIPPED WITH ANTI-AIRCRAFT GINS AND TRUCKS. THE CHINESE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC HAS ALSO GIVEN SIMILAR AID.

    TANZANIA, WHICH MAINTAINS A STRICT POLICY OF NON-ALIGNMENT, IS ACCEPTING AID OFFERS FROM NON-COMMUNIST COUNTRIES AS WELL. CANADA IS PROVIDING EQUIPMENT FOR HER FORCE AND HELPING IN THE TRAINING PROGRAMME.

    MEANWHILE, ZANZIBAR'S LAND-GIVING SCHEME IS EXPECTED TO GIVE NEARLY 2,000 PEASANT FAMILIES FARMS BY THE END OF THE YEAR. PRESENTING THE FIRST PLOT ON MONDAY, VICE-PRESIDENT KARUME SAID THE SCHEME WAS PART OF THE REVOLUTIONS AIMS OF RETURNING THE MOST FERTILE LAND TO THE PEASANTS WHO HAD EARLIER LOST IN TO "THE BRITISH IMPERIALISTS CO-OPERATING WITH THE ARAB SULTAN".

    THE PLOTS HAVE ON THEM CLOVE TREES, COCONUT TREES, BANANA PLANTATIONS, CASSAVA AND SWEET POTATOES AS WELL AS UNCULTIVATED LAND.
