The Royal birthday was also a family affair, bringing the King's three daughters Anne Marie, Margarethe and Benedikte together, with their children.
Queen Anne Marie is the wife of Greece's exiled King Constantine, and Princess Benedikte is the wife of Prince Richard of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg. Princess Margarethe, the heir to the throne, is the wife of Prince Henrik of Denmark.
SYNOPSIS: At the Amalienborg Castle in Copenhagen on Thursday, Denmark's King Frederik the Ninth stepped on the balcony with Queen Ingrid to receive the congratulations of a crowd of some 3000 people in the streets below, on his 72nd. birthday.
The weather was freezing and windy all day in the capital, otherwise the crowd would certainly have been bigger.
The crowds also cheered the Danish Princesses Benedikte and Anne Marie, who had come home with their children to join their sister Margarethe for the Royal birthday. Margarethe, the heir to the throne, is married to Prince Henrik of Denmark, Benedikte tot he German Prince Richard, and Anne-Marie to the exiled King Constantine of Greece.
King Frederik, son of King Christian Tenth, has reigned now in Denmark for 24 years.
