    "After we had stayed 24 hours on the capsized boat without food or water, the Captain told us we had to leave the boat."



    SCU Leonorae Kleanu continues:-



    "So we had to jump - each passenger jumped with a member of the crew. We were afraid however that we should go too close to our ship because the waves might be sucking us underneath the boat."

    SCU Admiral Boone speaks:- "By his raw courage & tenacity, combined with modesty, Captain Carlsen has won the admiration and respect of us all. His conduct under the most trying conditions in the North Atlantic weather, & in the face of graved personal danger, has certainly been in keeping edith the highest traditions of seafaring men. The only reward he seeks is to bring his ship safely into port. We are all pulling very hard for that, & the Navy wants to continue to do everything possible to help this fine skipper finish his job."
