    COOPERATION BETWEEN THAILAND AND JAPAN UNDER THE COLOMBO PLAN HAS BEEN INCREASING RECENTLY. JAPANESE GOVERNMENT HAS LOANED THE SERVICES OF TWO JAPANESE EXPERTS FOR FATTENING THAT BEEF CATTLE AT THE LIVESTOCK DEPARTMENT AT MUCK LEK, IN THAILAND.

    CONTINUING THE EFFORTS OF JAPANESE GOVERNMENT IN AIDING THE LIVESTOCK INDUSTRY OF THAILAND, JAPANESE GOVERNMENT RECENTLY (ON AUG. 6, 1959) PRESENTED YOUR HEADS OF PRIZE CATTLE TO THE ROYAL THAT GOVERNMENT.

    IN BANGKOK HARBOUR, THE PRESENTATION CEREMONY WAS HELD ON BOARD THE JAPANESE SHIP TOZAI MARU NO. 5 WHICH BROUGHT THE CATTLE.

    THE JAPANESE AMBASSADOR PRESENTED THE CATTLE WITH A BRIEF SPEECH TO WHICH THE THAI MINISTER FOR AGRICULTURE MR. SAWAS MAHAPHOL EXPRESSED THANKS AND ADMIRATION FOR THE HELP JAPAN RENDERING TO HIS COUNTRY.

    THE CATTLE BEFORE BEING UNLOADED WERE GARLANDED.

    THE FOUR BEADS OF CATTLE WERE OF TWO COWS, ONE BULL AND ONE STEER. THEY RANGED FROM 18 TO 42 MONTHS IN AGE AND FROM 520 TO 450 KG IN WEIGHT. THE BULL AND A COW WOULD BE USED FOR BREEDING AND THE OTHER TWO FOR FATTENING. THE STUD BULL IS VALUED AT US$1,000 WHILE THE OTHERS WERE ABOUT US$700. THESE CATTLE KNOWN AS KOBE BEEF CATTLE WERE RAISED IN HYOGO AND JUMAMOTO PREFECTURES IN JAPAN.
