  • Description

The Vice-President of Iraq, Taha Muheddin Maruf, arrived in Warsaw On tuesday (20 February) a three day visit, during which he discussed the Israeli-Egyptian peace pact with Polish leaders.

SYNOPSIS: Mr. Maruf was welcomed by the President of the Polish Council of State, Henryk Jablonski. High on the agenda were talks on Poland's stand on israel. Iraq has been concerned by the unofficial talks between Israel and Poland last year on the question of establishing diplomatic relations. But, over the conference table, Mr. Jablonski pledged his country had no intention of setting up diplomatic relations with Israel.

During his discussions with the Polish leaders, Vice-President Maruf, condemned the Israeli-Egyptian peace negotiations, and claimed that the Palestinian problem could only be solved through a united Arab world.

The solution did not rest with the one Arab leader or country, he said. The Polish leaders in turn told Maruf that his own country's attempts to improve relations with neighbouring Syria, would help strengthen Arab unity.
