Background: A new Central Committee office of the Communist party in East Pakistan was established on Saturday (31 Dec. 1971) at an open-air meeting in Dacca.

The party thus came out of hiding after being officially banned in East Pakistan since 1954.

One thousand Bengalis, including representatives from a variety of parties and mass organisations, took part in the meeting, saluting the Soviet Union for its help in the India-Pakistan war, and in the Creation of the Bangla Desh regime in East Pakistan.
