Civil aviation delegations from India and Pakistan began talks in New Delhi on Monday (14 June) on the questions of over-flights and establishment of air links between the two countries.

SYNOPSIS: The atmosphere was cordial as the two delegations arrived at Indian Airlines House for the opening session. The leader of the Indian team, A.S. Bhatnagar, had a warm welcome for the head of the Pakistan delegation, Moshin Kamal.

The Pakistan team heard Mr. Bhatnagar describe civil aviation as perhaps the only field in which the principles of bilateralism and peaceful coexistence were followed so successfully, He said testimony to this was in the ever-increasing number of aircraft which scanned the skies uninterrupted from one destination to another throughout the world.

The Indian delegation were appreciative of the Pakistan view that their task was relatively simple. Mr. Kamal explained his optimism by saying that solutions to their problems has already been worked out at Foreign Secretaries level He added that all this meeting had to do was to work out the details of the resumption of over-flights and the establishment of air links.
