SYNOPSIS: The Soviet capital, Moscow - where many public buildings have been undergoing a face-lift in readiness for this month's historic visit by President Nixon. There's muted optimism about the visit in Washington -- and all indications are that leaders in the Soviet capital also hope that the talks will bring a further easing of relations between the two major powers.

This is where President Nixon is expected to stay while he's in Moscow. A hundred years ago part of this building was used as an armoury under the Czars. Now it has been converted as a lodging place for visiting heads of state. It stands inside the Walls of the Kremlin.

The Grand Kremlin Palace is often used for banquets in honour of visiting dignitaries - and President Nixon is expected to make use of the Moscow residence of the United States ambassador to host his own reception for Soviet leaders.

A visit to the Boishoi Ballet is a likely engagement for President Nixon... the ballet is among Moscow's leading cultural attractions.

Just outside the wall of the Kremlin is the Soviet Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. President Nixon is expected to lay a wreath here.

At Red Square, President Nixon is expected to pay his respects at Lenin's Mausoleum where the remains of Lenin are kept on view. President Nixon's Moscow visit begins on May 22nd.
