    PARTIES OF OFFICERS NAND MEN FROM THE LEOPARD LANDED TO ASSIST THE BRITISH ADMINISTRATOR, MR PETER WHEELER, IN SALVAGING EQUIPMENT FROM THE TRISTAN DA CUNHA CANNING FACTORY AND IN MOVING STORES AND PERSONAL POSSESSIONS DOWN TO THE LANDING STAGE. MEANWHILE THE VOLCANO WAS BECOMING SMOKE AND SPOUTING LAVA.

    AN AN INTERVIEW IN LONDON, OCT 23, MR WHEELER WAS ASKED ABOUT THE FUTURE OF THE ISLANDERS WHO ARE NOW ON THEIR WAY BY SEA TO THE UNITED KINGDOM.

    ASKED WHAT JOBS THE ISLANDERS WOULD BE ABLE TO TAKE ON IN BRITAIN, MR. WHEELER EXPLAINED THAT MANY OF THEM COULD WORK IN THE MERCHANT NAVY, POSSIBLY EVEN IN THE ROYAL NAVY, AND ON TRAWLERS.
