  • Description

Ceremonies in Lome, capital of Togo on Saturday (October 24) marking the 25th anniversary of the United Nations were climaxed by the inauguration of "United Nations Square" and the "Avenue United Nations."
Foreign Minister Joachim Hunlede, addressing a large assembly, praised the U.N.'s achievements, but added: "If the overall result is not a negative one, it nevertheless carries very many shortcomings due to the lack of realism and the egoism of member states."
The Foreign Minister went on to assure the assembly that Togo would continue to live up to and further the aims of the U.N.

Present at the celebrations to mark the U.N. anniversary were many foreign diplomats and leading Togo personalities, including Chief Goumou 2nd, president of the Togo United Nations Association.

In addition to the official naming after the United Nations of two Togo landmarks, there was also a ceremony to mark the inauguration of a new housing and industrial project centre.
