Background: The West Coast of Malaysia has been hit by torrential run which has brought severe flooding.....and at least one death.
SYNOPSIS: Police rescue boats were used to evacuate some 5,000 people from flooded areas in the low-lying suburbs of Kuala Lumpur. But despite the flood water, some aspects of life did go on.
Thousands of people fled their homes as the water rose to as high as nine feet, about three metres. Children, as always, made the most of the water, and they seemed to enjoy it. But in one incident, a child's swimming escapade turned into disaster. He drowned....the only death reported so far in the flooding.
The industrial area of the city was also badly hit. All the factories in the Segambut district were forced to shut down as flood waters rose to five feet, almost two metres. And elsewhere, temporary accommodation was prepared for evacuees.
