    THE BULGARIAN PRIME MINISTER, MR. TODOR ZHIVKOV, DISCUSSED EAST-WEST RELATIONS AND THE VIETNAM CONFLICT WITH PRESIDENT DE GAULLE OF FRANCE AT AN HOUR-LONG MEETING IN PARIS TODAY (THURSDAY). EARLIER, HE LAID A WREATH AT THE ARC DE TRIOMPHE.

    MR. ZHIVKOV WENT TO THE ARC DE TRIOMPHE TO LAY A WREATH AT THE ETERNAL FLAMES, AFTER INSPECTING A UNITED OF THE MOUNTED REPUBLICAN GUARDS. HE ALSO SIGNED PARIS' GOLDEN BOOK, AND LATER WENT TO THE ELYSEES PALACE TO MEET THE FRENCH PRESIDENT. MR ZHIVKOV, WHO IS ALSO FIRST SECRETARY OF THE BULGARIAN COMMUNIST PARTY, IS MAKING HIS FIRST VISIT TO A WESTERN COUNTRY SINCE THE SECOND WORLD WAR.

    IN THEIR TALKS TODAY, MR. ZHIVKOV AND PRESIDENT DE GAULLE ALSO DISCUSSED PLANS TO FORGE STRONGER POLITICAL, ECONOMIC AND CULTURAL LINKS BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES, WHICH FRANCE IS FOSTERING AS PART OF ITS POLICY TO IMPROVE RELATIONS WITH EAST EUROPEAN NATIONS. MR. ZHIVKOV LATER TOLD REPORTERS THAT BIG STEPS WERE BEING MADE FOR AN EAST-WEST RAPPROCHEMENT AND THAT HE WAS CONVINCED THAT THIS WOULD BE ACHIEVED.

    FRANCE AND BULGARIA WILL SIGN CULTURAL, SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL CO-OPERATION AGREEMENTS BEFORE MR. ZHIVKOV'S VISIT ENDS ON SATURDAY.
