The Regent of Greece, General George Zoetakis, attended the New Year's service at Athens Cathedral on January 1.
The Regent of Greece, General George Zoetakis, attended the New Year's service at Athens Cathedral on January 1. Also present was Premier George Papadopoulos and the whole of the cabinet. For the fourth time since the new regime seized power in April 1967, the service was held in the absence of the Royal Family.
A large number of the country's leaders were present at the service. In addition to the government leaders were the leaders of the Armed Forces, Church and State dignitaries and members of the Diplomatic Corps.
The Regent arrived in a large motorcade and was welcomed at the Cathedral by a colourful line-up of the country's military leaders and a band of honour. General Zoetakis saluted the flag.
The service was conducted by the Archbishop of Greece, Mgr. Isronymos.
