    THE CHAIRMAN OF GHANA'S BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE CENTRE FOR CIVIC EDUCATION, DR. K.A. BUSIA, LAST WEEK DECLARED THAT GUNS AND VIOLENT REVOLUTIONS COULD NOT SOLVE THE ECONOMIC PROBLEMS OF THE COUNTRY -- THEY COULD BEST BE SOLVED BY PEOPLE DISCUSSING WHAT AT THE INAUGURATION OF THE WESTERN REGIONAL BRANCH OF THE CENTRE FOR CIVIC EDUCATION IN TAKORADI.

    THE INAUGURATION CEREMONY WAS ATTENDED BY LOCAL CHIEFS AND PEOPLE FROM THE TAKORADI AND SECOND AREA. PEOPLE WERE URGED TO MAKE USE OF THE CENTRE, AND WERE TOLD BY DR. BUSIA THAT THE HALL-MARK OF A HAPPY, DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY WAS THE AMOUNT OF VOLUNTARY WORK PEOPLE WERE PREPARED TO CONTRIBUTE.

    DR. BUSIA POINTED OUT THAT THE TAKORADI AND SECONDI AREA WAS AN INDUSTRIAL ONE WHICH REFLECTED ALL TIME ECONOMIC PROBLEMS FACING GHANA. IT WAS NECESSARY, HE SAID, FOR PEOPLE TO TAKE AN INTEREST IN GOVERNMENT, BECAUSE WHAT WAS DECIDE AT A LOCAL AND NATIONAL LEVEL AFFECTED THEM ALL.

    LATER, OFFICIALS OF THE WESTERN REGION ADVISORY COMMITTEE OF THE CENTRE INTRODUCED TO THE AUDIENCE. THEY INCLUDED THE PRESIDENT OF THE WESTERN REGION HOUSE OF CHIEFS, NANA KWAW FRAIKUI III; THE ASSISTANT-HEADMASTER OF FIJAI SECONDARY SCHOOL, MR KWESI LAMPTEY; THE GENERAL MANAGER OF THE RAILWAYS AND PORTS AUTHORITY, MR G.K.B. DE GRAFT JOHNSON; THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH REGIONAL MATRON. MRS ELIZABETH TURKSON AND THE NATIONAL ORGANISERS OF THE CENTRE, MR S.A.ODI SKYES AND MISS EMMA JIAGGIE.
