  • Description

IN VIETNAM A GROUP OF CHILDREN ARE CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS IN A TRADITIONAL WESTERN MANNER WITH THE STORY OF THE BIRTH OF CHRIST. ONE VITAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THESE YOUNGSTERS AND MILLIONS OF OTHERS IN COMFORTABLE HOMES ALL OVER THE WORLD IS THAT THEY ARE CELEBRATING IN REFUGEE CAMP AS ORPHANS OF WAR.

THERE ARE ABOUT 120 CHILDREN AT THE VIET-HOA ORPHANAGE -- MOST OF THEM BETWEEN FOUR AND TWELVE YEARS OLD.

THE CHRISTMAS PLAY WAS STAGED IN THE CHA TAM CHURCH NEXT TO THE ORPHANAGE IN THE HEART OF THE CHOLON DISTRICT WHERE MUCH OF THE FIGHTING TOOK PLACE DURING THE 1968 VIET CONG OFFENSIVE.

AT LEAST HALF OF THE CHILDREN NOW LIVING AT THE HOME ARE VICTIMS OF THE ATTACK BUT DURING THE FIGHTING NO-ONE ALREADY LIVING AT THE ORPHANAGE WAS INJURED.
