Preparations are underway to re-open Jerusalem airport to civilian flights as from tomorrow (9 July). The airport was captured by Israeli forces during fighting in the Middle East on June the 6th and 7th.
At the time when hostilities broke-out the airport was large enough to take aircraft up to the size of medium-range jets, such as Caravelles, and served the Old City and its surrounding areas.
Work was also in hand, by an American firm, to extend the runway.
While the firm's equipment stands idly outside the terminal buildings Israeli workmen are inside busy rebuilding and repainting for tomorrow's opening which will provide Israel with the first commercial airlink between Jerusalem and the rest of the country.
