    The former Egyptian War Minister, Field Marshal Ahmad Ismail, was reburied in the Martyr's Cemetery in Cairo, on Saturday (27 December).

    Field Marshal Ismail died in December 1974 while being treated for lung cancer in London, England.

    His body was flown back to Egypt where it was buried in the Field Marshal's family cemetery with full State honours.

    Now his body has been moved to the Martyr's Cemetery.

    The reburial ceremony was attended by members of the Field Marshal's family and leading Egyptian government officials, including Muhammad Abdul Gamassy, the present Egyptian Minister for War, and Muhammad Ismail Fahmy, the Egyptian Foreign Minister.

    The Field Marshal became a hero in Egypt after the initial success of the Egyptian armed forces against Israel during the 1973 Middle East war.

    SYNOPSIS: The body of the former Egyptian Minister for War, Field Marshal Ahmad Ismail, was taken from the Ismail family cemetery for reburial in the Martyr's Cemetery in Cairo on Saturday. The Field Marshal died in December nineteen seventy four after being flown to London, England, to receive treatment for lung cancer.

    His body was flown back to Egypt from England and was buried in the family cemetery. The burial was accompanied by full State and Military honours.

    Field Marshal Ismail became a hero after he planned strategic military manoeuvres which brought outstanding, initial success for the Egyptian armed forces against Israel in the nineteen seventy-three Middle East War.

    Many leading Egyptian military and government officials attended the reburial ceremony including high ranking officers from the armed forces.

    Amongst these who attended the ceremony was the present Egyptian Minister for War, Muhammad Abdul Gamassy and the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Muhammad Ismail Fahmy.
