GENERAL THI WHO WAS UNSUCCESSFUL IN GETTING THE STUDENTS TO CALL OFF THEIR HUNGER STRIKE, LATER TOOK PICTURES OF THEM FROM AN ARMY JEEP.

(EARLIER, THE STUDENTS PARADED THROUGH THE STREETS OF HUE AS A DEMONSTRATION OF GRIEF OVER THE ALLEGED KILLING OF NINE STUDENTS BY GOVERNMENT TROOPS DURING THE POLITICAL UNREST IN DALAT, A MOUNTAIN RESORT ABOUT 200 MILES NORTHEAST OF SAIGON, EARLY LAST MONTH.)
