    INCREASED VIETCONG ACTIVITIES IN SAIGON HAS PROMPTED THE BRITISH EMBASSY TO TIGHTEN SECURITY IN AND AROUND THE BUILDING. ALL WINDOWS IN THE THREE-STOREY BUILDING HAVE BEEN TAPED TO PROTECT AGAINST POSSIBLE BLASTS FROM VIETCONG BOMBS.

    ABOUT 50 PEOPLE ARE EMPLOYED AT THE EMBASSY INCLUDING 35 BRITONS.

    BRITISH ARMY MILITARY POLICE FLOWN TO SAIGON FROM MILITARY BASES IN HONG KONG AND SINGAPORE AS PART OF THE SECURITY PLAN, ARE NOW CARRYING OUT IDENTITY CHECKS ON ALL VISITORS. THEY ARE SUPPLEMENTING THE PRESENT GUARD DETACHMENT OF BRITISH ARMY GURKHAS.

    THE TWO LARGE GATES LEADING TO THE EMBASSY FORECOURT ARE BEING KEPT CLOSED TO PREVENT ENTRY BY PRIVATE CARS. THOSE THAT ARE PARKED IN FRONT OF THE BUILDING ARE BEING ASKED TO DRIVE OFF.
