  • Description

THE THAI GOVERNMENT HAS LAUNCHED A CAMPAIGN DESIGNED TO CHECK COMMUNIST INFLUENCE IN THE COUNTRY. ON MONDAY (20 MARCH) PRIME MINISTER KITTIKACHORN OPENED ONE OF SEVERAL YOUTH CAMPS BEING ESTABLISHED TO COUNTER THE COMMUNIST PROPAGANDA.

YOUTHS FROM AREAS LIKELY TO HAVE COME UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF COMMUNISTS ARE HOUSED IN THE CAMPS FOR 15 DAYS OF LECTURES ON THE EFFECTS OF COMMUNISM AND FOR TOURS OF VARIOUS GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS. THE CAMP THAT PRIME MINISTER KITTIKACHORN OPENED ACCOMMODATED 260 YOUTHS. HE URGED THEM TO MAKE FULL USE OF THEIR STAY, AND TO PUT INTO EFFECT WHAT THEY HAD LEARNED WHEN THEY RETURNED TO THEIR VILLAGES. THOSE ATTENDING THE CAMP GAVE THE PRIME MINISTER HOME-MADE SOUVENIRS OF HIS VISIT, INCLUDING A MODEL OF A PAIR OF WATER BUFFALOES PLOUGHING A PADDY FIELD.
