    A North Vietnamese delegation headed by Tuong Chin left Saigon on tuesday (25 November) following ten days of negotiating with a South Vietnamese delegation on the means of achieving a reunification of the country.
    A crowd lined the tarmac at Ton Son Khut airport and waved red banners as the delegation passed.The delegations also were presented with flowers as they prepared to board their flight north.
    During negotiations the two sides agreed to call national elections early next year to elect a national assembly for a reunited country.The actual date of the election has not been announced.
    A communique issued at the close of their negotiations suggested that the election would be one representative for every 100,000 people.
    South vietnam has approximately 20 million residents; North Vietnam, 24 million.
    The renegotiation conference came seven months after the fall of the United States-backed regime of President Nguyen Van Thieu.
    The two Vietnamese were considered a single unit until the 1954 Geneva Conference during which they were divided along the 17th parallel.
