    Affectionately known as "The Work-Horse of the RAF", the Hastings four-engined transport aircraft first entered service the October 1948. Since then they have flown over 155 million miles. During the Berlin air-lift, they carried 55,000 tons of coal and other freight to the blockaded city, and have taken part in most other major operations since the war. The Hastings were recently withdrawn from Squadron service with Air Support Command, having been replaced by the Hercules C.130, but many more remain in service with other Commands.
