A research station in animal breeding techniques in Kibolo, Congo-Kinshasa, has been making important progress in increasing the productivity and quality of hens, pigs and cattle. By cross-breeding the most successful breeders of various strains, total production has increased dramatically. By judicious feeding, the food value of the new strain of chickens is far greater than before.
SYNOPSIS: Thirty kilometres from Kikwit in Congo-Kinshasa, an experimental research station in animal breeding techniques has been making important progress.
The research station is in Kibolo. Here, some 350 head of cattle graze over an area of 3.700 acres. These 350 head of cattle have ben chosen as the best breeders of their strains. The same selection process was applied to these breeding pigs. The aim of breeding amongst the top breeders of differing strains is to produce for productivity and results so far have been dramatically successful.
Again, the same process is applied to the breeding of turkey hens and turkey cocks. Results in poultry breeding have shown an unexpected turn. By improving the diet of the strains being cross-bred, the new strain possesses a vastly improved food value they're more healthy to eat.
Special effort is being made in the breeding of chickens - better known in the kitchen, and therefore more important in the effort to improve the effort to improve the general health of the population.
