  • Description

The Cunard luxury liner Caronia, which collided with a channel marker light when leaving Yokohama on April 14th in the middle of a world luxury cruise, entered the United States Navy drydock at Yokosuka, Japan, on April 24th.

The Caronia suffered a six-foot gash in the bows on the waterline as she was leaving harbour.

Most of the Caronia's 403 passengers remained aboard the vessel and will continue to do so while repairs are carried out. The ship is expected to be in dock for three to seven days.

The docking of Caronia had been delayed owing to a busy schedule of work in the dockyard, and negotiations with the Japan Government to enable the United States Navy to take over the ship for repairs.
