Argentina beat Bulgaria 3-1 in a friendly international soccer match in Buenos Aires on Wednesday (29 March). It was the third straight win for the home team, having overcome Peru twice in the last fortnight. They are to meet Rumania on April 5 for another friendly match in the series which is regarded as a warm up for the World Cup championships which begin in June.
SYNOPSIS: Argentina, attacking from left to right, put the pressure on the visitors right from the start.
Argentina's first goal came in the tenth minute when Gallego pushed in a pas from inside the penalty area.
The second home goa came just three minutes later, when Ortiz ran through the Bulgarian defence to score brilliantly.
The Argentina team then slowed down, allowing their opponents more space for attacks, but although there were occasional flashes of brilliance, the Bulgarians were outclassed throughout the game.
The only Bulgarian goa came when Grantcharov connected with a corner pass and slammed the ball past the Argentina keeper.
Both sides played uninspired soccer in the second half. The visitors seemed to feel the effects of the humid evening and the high temperature, which was above 85 degrees Fahrenheit (29.4 Centigrade) in the stadium.
One move by the Bulgarians as they battled to even the score, began as an attack from the left wing, but Argentina were waiting. Within minutes a foul resulted in a free kick from Passarella from just outside the penalty area which allowed Ardiles to score Argentina's third goal.
The visitors attacked again in the closing minutes of the game, but the Argentina players, already well into their training for the World Cup, were never really in danger.
