    On Tuesday (March 27) he took leave of President George Pompidou at a luncheon at the Elysee Palace.

    The 66-year-old General Huang has played a leading role in the warming of relations between China and non-communist nations. It is generally believed in diplomatic circles that his new assignment will be as head of the first mission his country is to establish in the United States.

    Toasting General Huang at the luncheon, President Pompidou paid personal tribute to the ambassador for his efforts in strengthening Franco-Chinese understanding.

    General Huang said President Pompidou's projected visit to Peking in September would constitute a great event in the improved relations between their two nations.

    Western diplomatic source believe the sixty-six year-old General's next assignment will be to head China's first mission to the United State.s The mission is to be established later this year.
