    The neighbouring West African states of Togo and Dahomey have pledged to work for greater co-operation of manpower and goods between the two French-speaking countries.

    The pledge was made in a joint communique issued on Monday (7 May) after a round of talks between Dahomey's President Lieutenant-Colonel Mathieu Kerekou and his Togolese counterpart, President Etienne Eyadema. President Kerekou paid a one-day visit to the Togolese capital, Lome, for the talks.

    Both President also reiterated their support for the United Nations, the Organisation of African Unity and the West African economic organisation, OCAM. They also pledged support for "liberation" movement in Africa.
